Upon receiving his MFA in film production from NYU, Pepe began his television career as the cinematographer for the HBO/Cinemax miniseries, QUARRY, directed by Greg Yaitanes - pure seventies pulp!
He then shot the pilot for HBO’s THE DEUCE -- a show created by David Simon and George Pelecanos about the birth of the porn industry in NYC starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Franco. His work on the pilot earned him an ASC and a Camerimage nomination in 2016.
Quickly after, Pepe was responsible for shooting the pilots and setting the visual style for a number of notable projects including, Netflix’s OZARK, directed by Jason Bateman and IMPULSE, directed by the legendary Doug Liman.
Other TV credits include episodes of MRS AMERICA for FX, MOSQUITO COAST for Apple TV, ELECTRIC DREAMS for Amazon Prime, COYOTE for Paramount, DAVE for FX, Long Bright River for Peacock and Season 1 of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, on which he reunited with director Greg Yaitanes to shoot 3 episodes, including the shocking finale - yeah, the one where a little kid gets chomped and swallowed by a big ass dragon.
His lates TV project is Ryan’s Murphy Love Story on FX
On the feature film side, Pepe shot THE KINDERGARTEN TEACHER directed by Sara Colangelo which won the jury’s award in Sundance 2018. Shortly after he teamed up again with Colangelo to film WORTH starring Michael Keaton.
Pepe is a frequent collaborator with Puerto Rican musician and artist, RESIDENTE. Their most recent project, 313, won Best Music Video at the Latin Grammy’s in 2024, was nominated for best cinematography at the 2024 Camerimage festival, won silver Clio award for best cinematography 2025 and received an ASC award for best cinematography.
Pepe has also directed music videos, branded films and commercials for clients like Pepsi, Armani, Cinemex and GNP and his short films have been screened in festivals around the world. Breve cuento sobre la aparición espontánea de un árbol imaginario was awarded best short film at Unifest, Madrid 200 and Audience Award in the Festival El cine a las calles 2007, among others. His latest film, Batallas latentes, opened the Mexican short film section at the Morelia Film Festival in 2014 and his spot ELLA for Armani received the AICP award in 2013 and is now part of the permanent collection at the of the Film Department at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).
